Food Education

As a farm and non-profit devoted to improving the health of local children and youth, Project GROWS has developed both on-farm and off-farm education programs that are changing the way the next generation relates to food and the land. Learn more about our three main areas of focus for food education below.

“As a school nutrition employee, Project GROWS is one of my favorite partnerships! We of course love being able to offer fresh, local produce to our kiddos in school meals, but the relationships we have built by bridging gaps between Farm to School to Home is PRICELESS!  From taste testing to Kids’ Farm Market, we have had so much FUN!”

Our Programs

Farm to School Tastings

At a Farm to School Tasting, Project GROWS highlights a seasonal vegetable by preparing delicious samples and serving them in a local public school cafeteria. Every student in the school has the opportunity to taste a vegetable they may have never seen before!

Farm Field Trips

We know that kids who garden eat more veggies. Field trips to Project GROWS immerse students in a hands-on, experiential, outdoor learning environment. Field trips involve exploration of the education space, production beds, sensory garden, greenhouse, high tunnels, and pollinator garden.

Summer Programs

Project GROWS summer camps are in partnership with the Blue Ridge Children’s Museum. During June and July, we also partner with local organizations to host youth on the farm for weekly field trips over an eight-week period.
